Alexandre Mattiussi’s AMI frequently toys with the conventions of Parisian elegance, upending timeless denim jackets and carrot-cut slacks with playful embroidery and graphic knitwear. Occasionally, the label reigns in its lighthearted experimentation in favor of ultra-sleek minimalism — such is the case with Spring/Summer 2020, which delivered a genderless runway packed with relaxed cuts and tweaked wardrobe staples.

A slew of monochrome black looks kicked off the show, with leather coats, shirts and trousers bolstering the conventional cotton tanktops and shirts layered beneath. Models of all genders wore similar looks, down to the skirt-like shorts and sleeveless knit vests, later seen in light green and bold red. Shades of pink also informed the hefty blazers and relaxed pants, with unbuttoned shirts and neck-high trench coats heightening the androgynous motif. Black leather boots, belts and accessories reinforced the collection’s mature attitude, while AMI’s preferred curved-brim caps lent the range an air of sporty ease.
