Stüssy Summer 2019 Gets Editorialized by Mark Lebon
A first look at the retro-indebted seasonal collection.
Stüssy Summer 2019 picks up right where Spring left off, updating classic staple pieces with Stüssy’s signature irreverance. Shot by longtime Stüssy Tribe member and friend Mark Lebon, a special editorial offers a first look at the colorful seasonal range.
An early contributor to Buffalo, Lebon worked with icons like Barry Kamen and Judy Blame, developing a sophisticated style of shooting that informed his later career. For Stüssy Summer 2019, the father of photographer Tyrone Lebon created dice sets in his home studio, simultaneously referencing a key part of Stüssy’s visual language and creating an engaging backdrop for the clothing. Throughout the half-dozen images, the elder Lebon’s signature moody lighting grants the retro-indebted designs a sophisticated edge, undercutting the vigor of the pink anoraks and rainbow-hued striped shirts.
Leopard-printed shorts and “Stüssy International”-branded parkas lend graphic appeal to the lightweight items, further abetted by striped coaches jackets, vividly-patterned band collar shirts and plaid boiler suits, with blazers to match. Branded totes and shoulder bags provide utilitarian storage, while Stüssy’s preferred chunky sunglass frames reinforce the throwback inspiration that informs checkerboard-collared rugby shirts and pleated gurkha shorts.
The collection hits Stüssy’s website, Chapter stores and Dover Street Market London and and Los Angeles on May 10.
