adidas Originals' "Frank Shorter vs. The Imposter" Pack Honors a Notorious Olympic Moment
Two sporty new styles.
After dropping off its retro Continental 80 sneaker in “Beige/Orange/Black” earlier this week, adidas Originals is preparing to pay tribute to legendary American runner Frank Shorter with the release of its “Frank Shorter vs. The Imposter” pack. As the tale goes, Shorter was in the lead during a race at the 1972 Olympic Games when an imposter notoriously entered the stadium and “ran to (a fake) victory,” thus inspiring the design of the upcoming footwear styles.
The duo of shoes includes a ZX 500 RM in “Bold Gold” and an I-5923 edition in “Collegiate Royal,” with the bright yellow and blue shades setting the sporty tone. Playing up Shorter’s story, “1014” has been stamped onto the tongue of the ZX 500 RM as a nod to the olympian’s original number. The upper of the model is crafted in mesh and suede, while an EVA midsole and enhanced cushioning help with comfort. Meanwhile, the I-5923 gets etched with “xxxx” in reference to the marathon itself. Like its counterpart, the sneaker is constructed with mesh and suede while serrated 3-stripes cover the side panels. A BOOST midsole finishes things off.
The adidas ZX 500 RM “Bold Gold” retails for €140 EUR (approximately $160 USD), while the I-5923 is priced at €130 EUR (approx. $150 USD). Expect both options to release in the near future at 43einhalb’s webstore.
