James Gunn's 'Suicide Squad' Sequel Will Be a "Total Reboot"
Slated for a 2021 release.

After being reinstated as the director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, news has broke out that James Gunn‘s upcoming take on DC‘s Suicide Squad sequel will be a total overhaul.
According to the film’s Producer Peter Safran, as told to Joblo, the forthcoming film will be a “total reboot” of David Ayer’s 2016 vision as opposed to acting as a traditional sequel and should not be referred to as Suicide Squad 2. “First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ’cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it,” Safran stated in the interview.
Gunn will be tasked with both writing and directing duties for The Suicide Squad which Safran confirmed, “It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.” Safran went on to add, “You know what I love about James directing for both Marvel and DC is he has always espoused the view that that which unites comic book and superhero lovers is much greater than that which divides us. Because, there’s always been this Marvel/DC rivalry, which he has said, and I agree, is absurd. There’s room for everybody and certainly that which unites us all is far greater than that which divides us, so hopefully they’ll see that you can be both a Marvel and a DC fan and the world won’t spin off its axis.” Head over to Joblo for the full piece.
The Suicide Squad is tentatively scheduled for an August 2021 release and will begin production later this year.
Other reports concerning the latest Suicide Squad project suggests Will Smith will not be returning as Deadshot and Idris Elba will reportedly take his place.
