'Charlie Says' Trailer Shows Matt Smith Play the Infamous Cult Leader
Centred on the cult’s female followers.
The highly anticipated film Charlie Says starring Matt Smith has revealed its first teaser trailer, highlighting the elusive cult ran by Charles Manson.
Based on the real-life events of the Manson Family, Mary Harron — who is best known for her iconic thriller American Psycho — has produced a film that offers an insight into the minds of Leslie Van Houten (Hannah Murray), Patricia Krenwinkel (Sosie Bacon), and Susan Atkins (Marianne Rendón). Under the control of the cult leader played by Smith, the film looks into the tales and hallucinated, drug-fuelled life of the Manson Family who terrorized America in the 1960s.
The film centres on the three girls who murdered for Charles Manson and who are now confined and delusionally unaware of their crimes. Charlie Says is a psychological thriller, with Karlene Faith (Merritt Wever) brought in to assess the girls and to work with them.
While you wait for the film to release on May 10, 2019, take a look at the trailer above.
Charlie Says isn’t the only upcoming movie to tell the infamous Charles Manson story. Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a TIme in Hollywood is set to star Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, and will focus on Sharon Tate, who was murdered by Manson in 1969.
