Margaret Howell FW19 Is Slouchy Perfection
Britain’s minimalist master delivers another strong showing.
If ever there was a balm to Fashion Week Fatigue, it would be Margaret Howell. Amidst the endless parade of collaborations, trendy tastemakers and chunky sneakers, Howell quietly delivers compelling, effortless collections packed with wearable looks, and Fall/Winter 2019 upholds that tradition.
The co-ed runway blends appreciable male and female looks into a seamless flow, showcasing laid-back layers, gracefully oversized trousers and a small array of cozy accessories. Knit beanies and scarves both stave off winter chill and nod to Howell’s proud British heritage, while neutral cardigans, sweaters and turtlenecks co-mingle with ever-so-slightly too big blazers and militaristic jackets, complemented by hefty black loafers and pull-on boots.
Weighty coats keep the simple layers weather-appropriate, while muted argyle patterns and leaf prints offer the sole graphic point of the muted collection. Flowing shirts and skirts are interrupted by dangling leather belts and insouciant-tucked ties, while billowing trousers and jeans sport giant rises and equally meaty cuffs for a truly lived-in look.
