New Balance Reworks 996 in Sleek Monochromatic Leather
Revamping the 1988 classic.
Back in July, New Balance Japan partnered with a slew of labels like atmos, BEAMS PLUS, N.HOOLYWOOD and nonnative for an expansive collaboration capsule that reworked the classic 996. The American footwear giant has returned with new iterations of the silhouette, this time giving it a clean monochromatic update — featured is the CM996LTB and CM996LTW.
Starting at the top, the sneakers come with a small patch logo detailed with “NB” branding in gold-trim over a smooth leather tongue. The heel counter comes in white, subtly detailed with tonal “NB,” while “new balance” is etched in gold over the rear quarter. Though most of the sneakers embrace a tonal color scheme, like its laces, toe cap and side “N” logo, various panels come in different grains of leather for textural contrast, namely the tongue and upper quarter. All of these details sit above an essential duo-toned two-layer midsole equipped with C-CAP technology and a PU insole for optimal cushioning and support.
The New Balance CM996LTB and CM996LTW are currently available at atmos’ website for $135 USD.
Elsewhere, Nike has added two new styles to its Air Force 1 GORE-TEX lineup.
