2020 is the Year of the Rat according to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, and adidas Originals is starting the celebration a little early with a Superstar Clean “Year of the Rat.” A Superstar sans stripes, the Clean proffers a crisp look with its unadorned, flat uppers — which here are used as a blank canvas for painted detailing.

Constructed of white leather, each panel features a different painted graphic. Medial sides feature a majestic black crane with a blue beak and red features soaring up from the toebox. Meanwhile, the lateral side heads to the back with alternate styles on each foot. On the right shoe, a flowing pink koi fish starts at the midfoot before wrapping partly around the heel. On the left shoe, a snarling tiger takes residence around the heel’s curve. There is indeed a rat here as well: it’s present on each tongue, stamped in gold foil. A white rubber toe cap, midsole and outsole complete the look.

The adidas Superstar Clean “Year of the Rat” will release via adidas UK come December 20. The MSRP is set at £90 GBP (approximately $117 USD). If you’re curious, Chinese New Year will kick off officially on January 25. adidas has plenty in store for the Superstar in 2020 as well, with year-long celebration of its sixth decade on the market planned.

Elsewhere in the world of adidas, famous Fortnite streamer Ninja will release a Nite Jogger “Time In” later this month.
