adidas Skateboarding Collaborates with Metropolitan for Split-Design Superstar 80
The NY skate brand dons the icon with two shades of snakeskin.
adidas Skateboarding continues its streak of strong skate-scene-catered releases with its latest collaboration, this time with NY skate brand Metropolitan.
The sneaker in question is a new colorway for the iconic Superstar 80 model, incorporating a flair for luxury infused with traditional sneaker looks. The all-white low top comes in premium leather with a striking green snakeskin leather making up the lateral’s Three Stripes. The rear heel tab also matches with green snakeskin, however is cut 50/50 with an equal patch of light tan snakeskin. This thus transitions into the medial with matching triple stripes of the same color, creating a split-design dual look to the shoe. Gold accents hit the tongue and “Metropolitan USA” custom branding on the lateral mid, while a classic shell top and gum sole finishes off the overall clean pair.
Metropolitan originated in the 1990s by HUF founder Keith Hufnagel and singer Hanni El Khatib in 2017. The duo have worked together previously, on a capsule collection for their partnered Savage Times LP that featured Khatib’s scorpion motif. The brand encapsulates an east coast vibe for the collaborative Superstar 80, staying true to the brand’s aesthetic and feel in its in-line clothing brand.
The Metropolitan x adidas Skateboarding Superstar 80 releases on December 7, with pricing yet to be announced. Along with the adidas website, the sneaker is expected to hit sneaker and skate shop stockists worldwide. In case you missed it, we picked the top 10 sneaker releases of 2019.
