LOEWE's Futuristic Nomads Take Barcelona in SS20 Publication
“The Odyssey” was lensed by Tyler Mitchell.
After partnering for the Fall/Winter 2019 publication, LOEWE and Tyler Mitchell have reunited for the Spanish luxury house’s Spring/Summer 2020 publication. Barcelona’s Olympic Park appropriately plays host to LOEWE’s nomadic SS20 range, complementing the organic garments with raw stone and desaturated earth tones.
24-year-old Mitchell shoots LOEWE’s handmade wares at dramatic angles, juxtaposing fine textures — including Japanese punched cotton gauze, indigo dyed and woven by hand in Burkina Faso and Bangladeshi embroidered cotton — against the Olympic Park’s layered stones and Santiago Calatrava’s Montjuïc Communications Tower. Stark sunlight shines on the oversized knitwear, lightweight skirts and patchwork bags, anchored by strappy sandals and leather hiking boots.
The styling speaks to a contrast between the traditional influences (delicate fabrics, genderless silhouettes) and Western shapes, with soft suede overalls and draped shawls juxtaposed against blazers, belted trench coats and goggle-like sunglasses. Dieter Rams-inspired disk accessories mirror the circular metals that dot the Olympic Park, while fringes and feathers underscore the rough-hewn nomadic motif.
Take a closer look at Mitchell’s rich imagery on LOEWE’s site and expect the new collection to launch at LOEWE’s stores and stockists in early 2020.
Most recently, LOEWE opened a brand new store in New York City.
