24Karats, Mita and Mizuno have teamed up for a bold new take on the classic Wave Rider 1. Drawing on shared Japanese heritage, each brand has brought its signature ethos to the table, making for a collaborative effort that’s truly more than the sum of its parts. Dressed in a “Flight Jacket”-style olive and orange color scheme, the design is also packed chock-full of special accents.

Constructed of a double raschel mesh base that’s overlaid with both pigskin suede and synthetic accents, this Wave Rider wastes no time jumping into its myriad of inspirations. The geographical coordinates for both 24Karats and Mita’s flagship stores are stamped into the medial side of the mudguard, while the lateral side features a blue Runbird logo. This small graphic hit is just a warm-up for the full size Runbird on the midfoot, which is in fact removable — this pair comes accompanied by interchangeable black and orange options.

Moving towards the rear, the tongues equip a rubberized Mizuno logo while the super-sized yellow heel tabs feature a repeating 24Karats/Mita print, adding vivid alternate flair. Meanwhile, the heels feature lime green numbers — “01” on the left shoe and “17” on the right. This acknowledges stops on the Tokyo Metro’s Hibiya line: Naka-Meguro (1) is near 24Karats, while Ueno (17) is in Mita’s neighborhood. Midsoles feature Mizuno’s patent Wave tech, and a printed insole finalizes the look.

The 24Karats x Mita x Mizuno Wave Rider 1 is available now at Mita for a tax-included price of ¥19,800 (approximately $181 USD).

Elsewhere in the world of footwear, Mercer Amsterdam has tapped Vibram to help create a 100% vegan sneaker.
