Edited to look like one continuous shot, the film takes place in France during the the height of the First World War as two young British soldiers, played by George MacKay (Schofield) and Dean-Charles Chapman (Blake), are tasked with crossing into enemy territory to deliver a message that will likely stop the slaughter of hundreds of soldiers.
On the tense film and storyline Mendes shared with SlashFilm, “I felt this movie should be told in real time. Every step of the journey, breathing every breath with these men felt integral and there is no better way to tell this story than with one continuous shot.”
In the new trailer, fans can get a better look at the magic that cinematographer Roger Deakins is doing for the feature, as several stunning shots have been peppered throughout. Deakins recently won an Oscar for his cinematography work in Blade Runner 2049.
1917 will also star Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Teresa Mahoney, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Justin Edwards, Gerran Howell, Anson Boon, and Richard McCabe. Check out the tense final trailer above.
