Universal Works and adidas Join Forces For Elevated Winter Running Collection
Centered around two fresh takes on the UltraBOOST 2019.

Contemporary British menswear brand Universal Works and adidas have teamed up for an elevated winter running collection. Following the recent Wood Wood capsule, Universal Works’ efforts mark the second piece of adidas Running‘s four-part “Run City” pack, releasing over the course of Fall/Winter 2019. Centered around two takes on the UltraBOOST 2019, the Universal Works x adidas collection presents durable, appealing running garments that complement the revamped sneakers.
Universal Works co-founder David Keyte drew inspiration from running through London’s cold, wet winter streets for the offering; this arduous undertaking demands hardy, high-quality garments. However, Keyte believes that you don’t need to sacrifice aesthetic standards to fulfill this goal, stating, “I want to run in items that are still going to look good when you stop at the coffee shop afterwards.” Therefore, the collection is dressed in rich royal blue and elegant tan tones and features materials you wouldn’t normally expect to see on technical running apparel, like cozy wool.
Comprising a jacket, vest, shirt, running tights, shorts, hat and shoulder bags, each piece blends hi-spec textiles with a muted, earthy color palette for versatile styling. This sport-meets-street ethos is apparent on the two UltraBOOST 2019 models as well. Arriving in both tan and white, each pair trades out its standard synthetic midfoot cage for sturdy-yet-supple suede, adding marbled detailing on the outsole for additional visual interest. Of course, the UltraBOOST‘s signature cushioning and support remain fully intact.
The Universal Works x adidas Running collection will release on adidas.com and at select stockists on November 23. You can expect the “Run City” collection to continue later into the season by way of collaborations with NEIGHBORHOOD and Monocle.
adidas Originals is gearing up to present its own partnered projects as well: it recently teamed with 424 for monochromatic leather takes on the SC Premiere and Pro Model.
