Nike Air Max Plus 3 Returns in Classic "Hyper Blue" Colorway
A turn-of-the-century-classic is back.

Originally brought to market at the turn of the century, Nike‘s sleek Air Max Plus 3 is returning for the first time ever in 2019, and one of the colorways that’s been unearthed from the archives is the OG “Hyper Blue.” Still cutting-edge in its stylings two decades after it debuted, the Air Max Plus 3’s futuristic look plays well into Nike’s ongoing revival of its late ’90s-early ’00s Maxes, joining other silhouettes like the Air Max Tailwind IV and Air Max Deluxe for a second moment in the spotlight.
Cool blue gradients — a staple of the Plus line since the very first Air Max Plus released in 1998 — appear on the mesh base. A yellow Swoosh provides some branded flair before the remainder of the upper is quickly commandeered by a plethora of accents and overlays. Black leather encircles the collar and mudguard while the signature detail is provided by a large black plastic heel cage, itself embellished with rubberized blue accents that spring up from the midfoot shank. Yellow TN badges then appear the medial midfoot and tongue.
Down below, the Air Max cushioning system is split between a full-size unit in the heel and two smaller-size units in the forefoot. “Tuned Air” text under the jet black plastic toe cap and pops of detail on the outsole complete the look.
The Nike Air Max Plus 3 “Hyper Blue” is available now at SSENSE, retailing for $260 USD. A full Nike release is slated to follow on November 9, most likely with a lower retail price.
Elsewhere in the world of throwback vis-tech sneakers, the ASICS-GEL Kinsei has returned in a recognizable metallic silver and red colorway.
