ASICS Dips Into the Archives for Reissue of GEL-1090
First released in 2004, it’s back for another go-around.

Towards the tail end of a year filled with appealing retro releases, ASICS is reviving another heritage silhouette from its expansive archives: the GEL-1090. An accessible, versatile running silhouette that originally made its way to market in 2004, the GEL-1090 may fly slightly more under the radar than other recent ASICS re-releases like the GEL-Kayano 5. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting touchpoint from a largely unexplored phrase in running footwear history.
Arriving in a “Silver/Steel Grey” colorway, the 1090 flaunts a veritable plethora of metallic silver overlays, trimmed with black and sitting on top of a crisp white mesh base. However, the design is far from grayscale: an ombre-style orange to red fade appears on both the lateral and medial midfoot’s branded details. Down below, a white EVA foam midsole contains ASICS’ signature GEL cushioning in the heel while also utilizing red midfoot and heel shanks for extra support. A black, white and grey outsole completes the look.
The ASICS GEL-1090 “Silver/Steel Grey” is slated to release on November 22 at retailers like Asphalt Gold, with its MSRP set at €100 EUR (approximately $110 USD).
That’s not the only old-school runner ASICS is reviving: the brand recently brought back the OG GEL-Lyte III “Citrus” to celebrate the silhouette’s 30th anniversary.
