Sue Bird's Nike Kyrie 5 "Keep Sue Fresh" PE Is Receiving a Retail Release
Two all-world point guards, one sneaker.
Originally a PE gifted to Sue Bird by Kyrie Irving, the Nike Kyrie 5 “Keep Sue Fresh” is now set for a full retail release. Irving has been ebullient in his adulation of Bird, even labeling her the “greatest point guard to ever play the game,” so this PE was born of his desire to ensure that she always had special makeups from his signature Nike Basketball line.
Backstory aside, the Kyrie 5 “Keep Sue Fresh” presents a bold look with a white upper that’s heavily embellished with hand-scrawled black, yellow, green and red text, nodding to the colors of Bird’s Seattle Storm. The Venus flytrap-style lace overlay is secured with colored Flywire, and a red/green Kyrie graphic appears on the tongue badge while the Swoosh is dressed in a textured black material. The heel takes things a step further, trading in its standard all-seeing eye graphic for a “#KEEPSUEFRESH!” hit, and the outsole discards the original PE version’s (pictured below) icy blue sole for a light blue hue, complete with pops of color that match the upper.
Of course, Bird isn’t just known for her on-court kicks — she’s been spotted rocking everything from the Nike Air Max 90 “Be True” to OFF-WHITE‘s Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” alongside girlfriend/fellow sneaker lover Megan Rapinoe of the USWNT, and is one of the foremost female sneakerheads in the world of professional sports.
Her Nike Kyrie 5 “Keep Sue Fresh” will arrive on Nike SNKRS come November 2. Retail is set at $140 USD.
