Aries and New Balance Craft Two "Unbalanced" 991s
Highly detailed and extremely limited.

After strapping up a glow-in-the-dark Suicoke sandal this July, British brand Aries is entering the world of collaborative footwear once again, this time working with New Balance UK on a duo of bold “Unbalanced” 991s.
An energetic volt yellow appears to be a recurring theme throughout the two-pair collection. One colorway uses it as both a primary and secondary hue, while the other applies volt accents to the front half of the midsole, adding a little vibrancy into its mix of tans, greys, and autumnal oranges.
As is the case with many of New Balance’s co-created projects, the devil is truly in the details. A smattering of high-vis reflective silver accents are dispersed throughout the upper’s layered panels, while heel pull tabs are also added for ease of entrance and exit. The tongue has even been tweaked, pulling its shape and style from the New Balance 990v3.
For a finishing touch, both pairs offer insoles awash in special Aries branding and lively outsoles that use NB’s N graphic as a traction pattern. Special socks and t-shirts will accompany each pair as well.
New Balance’s EU creative design manager Mark Godfrey was ebullient in his praise for the finished product, stating “Undoubtedly our most ambitious and progressive collaboration to date. Aries pushed our domestic capabilities to the limit with their creativity and highly detailed approach to design. We’re extremely proud of this one” in the caption of a recent Instagram post.
An official release date has not yet been announced, but an Aries-exclusive drop is reportedly set for October 25, with a global rollout set to follow on October 29.
