adidas Spezial Looks to Northern England for FW19 Collection
Mixing technical innovations with archival adidas styles.
adidas Originals has returned with the upcoming Fall/Winter 2019 collection from its Spezial line, taking influence from Northern England and winter on the terraces at British football stadiums. The focus for the apparel and footwear collection is utilitarian and hard-wearing pieces, intended to combat the unpredictable weather of British winters.
One of the standout sneakers from the seasonal collection is the SL80 SPZL, which comes in a “Navy/Gold” colorway taken from the original SL80 sneaker. Elsewhere, the adidas Winterhill SPZL comes constructed in adi-tex, while the Hoddlesden SPZL is a premium leather sneaker. Rounding out the footwear offering is the previously-seen Blackburn SPZL, which is named after and inspired by the town in which designer Gary Aspden spent much of his youth. The full collection will launch alongside the adidas archive exhibition at the British Textile Biennial.
Alongside the four silhouettes, adidas Spezial is also releasing a range of apparel including its take on the classic fishtail parka — the Rossendale — as well as the Belthorn anorak, and Liner vest as well as longsleeve and short sleeve T-shirts and classic Spezial cotton socks.
Take an up-close look at the sneakers below. To celebrate the launch, adidas has worked with Gene Gallagher, son of legendary Oasis frontman Liam, who recently received his own Spezial collaboration. The adidas Spezial FW19 collection will arrive on the adidas web store and at select stockists on October 11.
In other footwear news, adidas has also wrapped the Stan Smith in GORE-TEX.
