'Top Gear' Details the Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar
An early look at the £2 million GBP, street-legal F1 hypercar.
Top Gear has just given us the best look at Mercedes-AMG‘s One Hypercar (it was renamed from “Project One Hypercar“). As an ambitious project of making the closest thing to a Formula 1 racecar for the road, the One Hypercar is a thing of wonders. Priced at £2 million GBP (approximately $2,575,000 USD), Mercedes-AMG will be producing around 275 of these hypercars. Although the release date has been pushed to mid-2020, due to drivetrain issues, car collectors are in no rush to have the ultimate driving experience perfected.
The Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar does deviate from its F1 counterpart, in that it has been engineered to idle at 1,200 rpm rather than 4,000 rpm, and its max revs have been capped to 11,000 rpm Vs 14,000 rpm. Power-wise, the Mercedes-AMG One puts out 1050 hp and can reach 124 mph in just under 6 seconds — 0.50 seconds faster than the Bugatti Chiron.
No stone was left unturned, as even the iconic Mercedes-Benz logo was airbrushed on rather than having a traditional metal badge — all to reduce weight and drag. Check out the video above for an early walk-around of the highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar.
In other automotive news, this one-of-a-kind 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake just sold for $2.2 million USD.
