Pace Hong Kong Honors Acclaimed Photographer Irving Penn with a Solo Exhibition
Known for his black and white portraits of Pablo Picasso, Truman Capote, and more.
Pace Hong Kong will soon launch a solo exhibition of acclaimed fashion photographer and visual artist Irving Penn (1917-2009). The late creative is widely-recognized for his monochromatic portraits of iconic figures such as Pablo Picasso, Truman Capote, Marcel Duchamp, and Georgia O’Keefe to name a few. For the forthcoming presentation, a selection of Penn’s Vogue editorials, nudes, still lives, and pieces from his 1972 Cigarette series will be on display. In addition to the photographic works, Pace will present a small, rare collection of paintings that he created at the end of his career.
“In an evolution of his platinum-palladium printing technique for photography, many of Penn’s paintings commenced with the artist creating a drawing in graphite or ink, which he would then photograph, enlarge, and print to emphasize his lines’ graphic style,” expressed the gallery in a statement.
The solo exhibition will be open to the public from January 25 until March 7, 2019. Head over to Pace’s website to learn more. Elsewhere in art, take a look at our latest Pen & Paper feature spotlighting Indonesian artist, Roby Dwi Antono.
