Fresh from unveiling his second collection for the French house, Virgil Abloh has now officially revealed his first menswear campaign for Louis Vuitton. The Spring/Summer 2019 campaign features pieces from the collection that made its debut at Paris Fashion Week in June last year, and is themed around ideas including perception and inclusivity.
The campaign has been split into three chapters, each of which has been shot by a different photography team. The first chapter is titled “Infancy, Childhood and Adolescence” and is a collaboration with Inez & Vinoodh. The images feature people of ages ranging from two to 16, to represent different stages in a person’s upbringing.
For the second chapter, named “The Painter’s Studio,” Louis Vuitton recruited Mohamed Bourouissa to reimagine the 1855 painting of the same name. The image features Virgil Abloh styling a look from the collection while being surrounded by members of his team, social circle and a selection of models. The image — which will be released in full and as close ups on February 1 – represents three themes that inform all of Abloh’s work at Louis Vuitton, listed as “diversity, inclusivity, and unity.”
Finally, the third chapter was shot by Raimond Wouda and is titled “School Teens.” Due to be officially revealed on March 22, this series features teenagers in the color blocked T-shirts given to the 1500 young students Abloh invited to the Spring/Summer 2019 show. These images look at people’s teenage years, including the desire to fit in with the need for individuality.
