This WWII-Era Air Control Tower Can Be Booked via AirBNB
A scenic getaway in the Scottish Highlands.

Nestled away in Tain, Scotland, nearby the North Coast 500 scenic route, stands a former base for the Fleet Air Arm. The HMS Owl Air Control Tower served as a unique outpost during WWII, and sits against the contrasting Scottish Highlands. The building, which is located on the original WWII airway, has undergone a five-year renovation in order to be converted to a family home and AirBNB guesthouse, successfully shaping it into a cozy living space that maintains its uniquely upcycled war-era glamour.
Donning a matte-black exterior, the structure retained its original steel-framed Crittall windows throughout the renovation process, with exposed brick walls and a collection of antique and factory-esque fixtures that compliment the historical structure’s barebones. While the project is indeed a family home, there is a room on the top floor where guests can enjoy a dreamlike view of the unspoiled landscape.
If you’re interested in booking a night, the family currently hosts guests for approximately $100 USD a night via their AirBNB listing.
