UPDATE: Eminem's New 'Kamikaze' Album Actually Samples 'Tokyo Ghoul' Not 'Kingdom Hearts'

UPDATE: Illadaproducer recently took to Twitter to reveal that the sample is actually taken from Donna Burke’s “Glassy Sky,” that was used in Season 2 of anime Tokyo Ghoul. Apparently, the producer “got it confused with another beat I did in which I used Kingdom Hearts‘ theme.”

With fans still trying to break down Eminem’s surprise album release, many are beginning to pick up on an unexpected sample used on Kamikaze.
Taking a detailed listen of “Good Guy” off of Em’s tenth studio album, a distorted female vocal can be heard throughout the track. According to producer, Illadaproducer, the song features a cut from a Kingdom Hearts theme. Although he does not reveal which song is used, the sample is assumed to be taken from “Simple & Clean” by iconic Japanese singer Utada Hikaru. “Simple & Clean” is the English language version Utada recorded for international formats of Japanese RPG game, Kingdom Hearts.

That’s me doing my video game thing. Kingdom Hearts. It’s a Japanese videogame, and that’s the theme song from it. It’s one of the dopest melodies I’ve ever heard. Shout out Japanese videogames and Japanimation for inspiration. Filtered it, did some chops, did some processing to it. I basically made it unrecognizable, but I know they would have still found it. That’s why we had to deal with the clearance. But when I do anything I try to make it to where it’s not fully recognizable.
