Rizzoli Books Celebrates Stan Smith's Legacy & Signature Sneaker
A retrospective of the 71-year old tennis legend and his legendary kicks.

Few sneakers truly deserve the mantle of “icon” more than Stan Smith‘s signature footwear. The ultra-versatile silhouette has graced the feet of creatives ranging from Phoebe Philo to Raf Simons and been remixed by everyone from Pharrell Williams to Yohji Yamamoto, becoming adidas highest-selling sneaker of all time in the process.
Many may be unaware that the sneaker is actually a signature model, first worn by a champion tennis player of the same name. Stan the Man — as he’s known to his friends — is finally getting his due thanks to Stan Smith: Some People Think I’m a Shoe, the latest book from Rizzoli. Over the course of its 336 pages, the tome explores the impact of Smith’s sports career and the legacy of his signature sneaker, which has since taken on a life of its own. A foreword written by Pharrell leads into retro ads, breakdowns of the design process and portraits of Smith shot by Juergen Teller.
Stan Smith: Some People Think I’m a Shoe is out now at select adidas & adidas Originals locations for $55 USD, with book signings scheduled throughout the month. Check out a list of the dates below.
