Disney+ and Disney Channel have officially ordered a new Kingdom Hearts anime series based on Square Enix‘s iconic action-RPG franchise. The announcement was made by actor Benjamin Bratt during the Disney Entertainment Showcase panel at Disney’s D23 fan event.
Developed in close collaboration with original game creator Tetsuya Nomura and developer Square Enix, the series will reimagine the adventure with an original storyline expanding the broader universe. A first-look image unveiled during the event showcased series protagonist Sora wielding his signature Keyblade.
Alongside the television adaptation news, Bratt confirmed he will reprise his Coco role, Ernesto de la Cruz, in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts IV video game. Since debuting on the PlayStation 2 in March 2002, the franchise has expanded across more than a dozen titles, selling over 39 million units worldwide.
While a premiere date for the Kingdom Hearts anime series has yet to be announced, Kingdom Hearts IV is set to debut in late 2027.
