'MTV Unplugged' is Making a Comeback
After eight years, the series returns to air.
From 1989-1999, MTV Unplugged gave artists the chance to give intimate, acoustic performances of their music. Among those to take the stage were musicians like The Cure, Neil Young, Nirvana, Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z and many more. Unfortunately things began to slow for the production after 2000, ultimately to its end in 2009.
After 8 years off air, the series will be making a comeback this September 8, starting with Shawn Mendes at the Ace Hotel in LA — one of many venues fans can expect to see. Amani Duncan, the executive responsible for the show’s music explained their rationale for this; “Lets take it to cool locations. Like where the artist played their first major show, or maybe they choose a location to make a pro-social statement, or it’s, ‘I always wanted to play Carnegie Hall.’” In the meantime, let’s throw back to Nirvana’s monumental 1993 performance on the show above.
In other news, Kendrick Lamar is set to perform at the next MTV Video Music Awards.
