Ed Sheeran Is Being Sued for Ripping off Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On"

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Ed Sheeran is being taken to court over claims that he lifted distinct elements from Marvin Gaye‘s classic ”Let’s Get It On” and incorporated them into his Grammy-winning international hit “Thinking Out Loud.” Gaye and Ed Townsend are credited as co-writers on the track, but they are both deceased. Instead, Townsend’s heirs – Kathryn Townsend, Helen McDonald and Cherrigale Townsend – have gone ahead and filed the federal lawsuit again Sheeran, Sony, Atlantic Records and Gingerbread Man Records on their behalf. They’re convinced that “Thinking Out Loud” has too similar of a melody, harmony and rhythmic composition to “Let’s Get It On” for it to be just a creative coincidence. The trio are hoping for a judge to grant them an injunction against Sheeran, blocking him from gaining any more illegal profits from the song. Is “Thinking Out Loud” too similar to “Let’s Get It On”?
