Chance The Rapper’s route to notoriety is led by faith and for some, that’s a surprising factor considering that Chicago’s violence is glorified within the music many of us hear. Nonetheless, it allows Chance to place himself apart from the box that many labels try to build around their artists. He’s been independent since his lyrical beginnings and from the looks of it, he’d rather keep it that way. Zach Baron of GQ recently spent time with the Chicago native and Chance held no punches when discussing his building relationship with the Obama family, his Muhammad Ali tribute during this year’s ESPYs, how he views labels controlling their artists as a “dick-swinging contest” that he’d rather not be a part of, and much more that will certainly generate your own personal two cents to throw in.
