After quietly surfacing on the museum’s site yesterday, the collaboration between Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum & Vans has received an official release date and lookbook imagery. Showcased alongside the paintings that inspired the collection, a full range of sneakers and clothing boast Van Gogh’s colorful artwork, emblazoning each item with the artist’s bright flowers and bold skulls.
Key items include a matching satin bomber, backpack & cap offering digitally printed Almond Blossom art and a black long-sleeved shirt & hoodie adorned with Skulls on the rear. T-shirts cleverly mash up Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait & Sunflowers and Vans’s signature checkerboard pattern, accented by “Vincent & Vans” detailing. The sneakers are equally vital, of course — several iconic Vans models match the art on the clothes, including the classic Sk8-Hi and Authentic. However, an Old Skool and Slip-On feature exclusive Old Vineyard and “Letters” prints, the latter of which was created by selecting text and illustrations from the 700 handwritten dispatches Van Gogh sent to his brother, Theo. Custom footbed graphics showcases co-branding and lines that evoke Van Gogh’s recognizable brushstrokes, while included hangtags will highlight historical facts about the art that inspired each sneaker.
Elsewhere, Vans recently revived the classic Epoch Sport silhouette.
