With the excitement around France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup win still on a high, French website WAVE tapped sneaker customizers Julien Pagès & Mathias Prognon to honor the tournament’s Best Young Player Kylian Mbappé with a pack of elevated Air Max silhouettes. Dubbed the “1998-2018” pack, the sneakers commemorate both Mbappé’s monumental tournament run and the two years France has won the World Cup.
Representing two golden eras of French football, the customizers selected this year’s Air Max 270 and the classic Air Max Plus. Recalling France’s historical win 20 years ago, the AM Plus features a bold segmented white, blue and red pops of color reminiscent of the country’s flag accented by a regal gold star. Complete with two gold stars, the AM 270 iteration builds upon the model’s uniquely weaved Flyknit upper with subtle blue and red hits that resemble the speckling found on France’s away jerseys this year. Additionally, the shoes come in a special box marked with “1998-2018,” French Flag and two World Cup-winning stars on its translucent cover.
The unique shoes are exclusive to WAVE, but stay tuned in case Nike delivers its own Mbappé-honoring shoe. In case you missed it, Kylian Mbappé recently revealed he will be donating his $500,000 USD World Cup winnings to charity.
