Drake Sends DeMar DeRozan a Personal Thank You Message After Spurs Trade

Seemingly coming out of left field, on Wednesday morning it was announced that the Toronto Raptors have decided to trade All-Star DeMar DeRozan for San Antonio Spurs player Kawhi Leonard.

As fans begin to digest the news, many loyal followers of the Raptors have begun thanking DeRozan for his nine seasons with the team; amongst them is Canadian superstar Drake. The lifelong Raptors fan took to his personal Instagram account to send DeRozan a personal thank you message stating, “you are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had.”

Drake also sent a message to Leonard, in which he wrote, “To Kawhi…we look forward to a this new chapter and we welcome you to the most intense and supportive city in NBA basketball!!!” He continued, “You have always been a poised clinical warrior and I can’t wait to see how Toronto inspires your fight. Let’s Go Raptors.”

Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history. I am grateful to have witnessed your combination of skill, persistence, and loyalty from the same seats every night. Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend.”

DeRozan’s move to the Spurs also includes the trade of Toronto’s Jakob Poelt in exchange for a 2019 first round draft pick and Danny Green.
