Watch Frank Ocean Cover Steve Monite's Nigerian Disco-Funk Hit "Only You"
It went down this past weekend at FYF Fest.
This past weekend, Frank Ocean stole the show at Los Angeles’ FYF Fest. From an immersive sing-a-long to a special celebrity guest, the “Biking” singer-songwriter ensured his adoring fans received more than their money’s worth. Along with a setlist full of favorites, Frank Ocean also debuted something new: a never-before-heard live cover of Nigerian disco and funk artist Steve Monite’s “Only You.” Originally released back in 1984 and re-released earlier this year, the song was rejuvenated by Frank Ocean and Alex G, who aided the aforementioned headlining set.
Along with “Only You,” Frank also served up his take on Stevie Wonder’s iteration of The Carpenters’s “Close To You” and put his spin on The Jackson 5’s classic “Never Can Say Goodbye.” At present time, footage of the Steve Monite cover is the only visual available on YouTube.
