Manchester United Celebrates 140th Anniversary With New Home Kit
Paying tribute to the club’s roots.

For the 2018/19 Premier League season, Manchester United is set to celebrate the 140th anniversary of its founding. To mark this occasion, adidas has designed a home jersey that references its early days and subsequent success. The key feature of the kit — which comes in the club’s signature red — is a train track graphic that runs in stripes around the bottom of the shirt. The train track is a nod to the club’s roots and original name.
When Manchester United was founded back in 1878, the club was called Newton Heath (Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway) Cricket and Football Club, and played matches against other railway teams. In 1892 the team entered the top division, before changing its name in 1902 and going on to be one of the most successful British teams of all time. The red-and-black jersey will be accompanied by black shorts and socks. The kit is available now from the adidas web store and Manchester United stores, and will be worn by players when the league starts in August.
