'Rugrats' Gets a Revival & Live-Action Film
’90s nostalgia.
Following the news that Viacom Corporation is preparing its own streaming service, Nickelodeon and Paramount have announced a 26-episode order of the highly-revered ’90s cartoon franchise, Rugrats. While we’ve already seen a teenaged version of Tommy Pickles and the gang in All Growed Up — the new series will set them back to diapers. Working to expand the universe of this franchise, original creators, Arele Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain will serve as executive producers on the project. Additional information including the airdate and voice cast have yet to be announced.
Paramount’s new film division, Paramount Players, is set to produce the live-action film, which will feature CG characters. The movie will be penned by David Goodman, and is currently slated for a November 13 2020 release. For Viacom, breathing new life into older, popular franchises is a strategy that will also bring other popular Nickelodeon shows like Blue’s Clues, Rocko’s Modern Life, as well as Invader Zim back.
