Kendrick Lamar Recalls Jay Rock's First Sessions with Lil Wayne
For part two of ‘The Road to Redemption.’
For the promotional campaign in support of Jay Rock‘s latest studio album Redemption, TDE has put together a special docu-series known as The Road to Redemption. The first entry in the series originally dropped earlier this month and featured insightful interviews with TDE’s most significant power players. Now, following last week’s video for the J. Cole-assisted “OSOM,” the Top Dawg Entertainment crew has shared part two of The Road to Redemption.
For the latest episode, viewers are given never-before-heard insight on Jay Rock’s career following his first initial explosion in the game. APLUS and editor Josh Forman examine the creation of Jay Rock’s hit-single “All My Life (Ghetto),” the Watts rapper’s major label struggles, his commitment to putting his team above himself, and more.
“That moment in the studio with Wayne … that changed my perspective on work ethic,” Kendrick Lamar shares, breaking down his experience with the studio sessions for Lil Wayne‘s verse on “All My Life (Ghetto).” Elsewhere, Kendrick sums up Jay Rock’s sound the best, saying that his music revolves around “that struggle, that real music, that pain.”
