IKEA Teases Handmade Rugs From Virgil Abloh & Craig Green
Part of a series of exclusive artist collaborations.
Following today’s reveal of key pieces from the Virgil Abloh x IKEA “MARKERAD” collection, the Swedish design giant has unveiled a dozen bespoke rugs as part of its IKEA Art Event 2019 initiative. The handmade wool decorations were designed by a group of international artists, resulting in a disparate set of playful creations.
Abloh’s two submissions include a “KEEP OFF” rug, first seen earlier this year, and a new “STILL LOADING” creation that showcases a landscape photo still being processed by a computer. On the flip side, British creative Craig Green debuted a rug complementary to his Spring/Summer 2018 collection, with two parrots amidst a swirl of tropical color. Japanese artist Misaki Kawai offers a lighthearted rug in the shape of a multicolored lion family, while Filip Pagowski, famous for designing the COMME des GARÇONS PLAY heart logo, submits a intricate design with a crochet-like pattern.
Other contributors include Craig Redman, Noah Lyon and Chiaozza; take a closer look on IKEA’s website and expect the rugs to arrive next year.
Most recently, IKEA paired with SONOS for smart home-ready speakers.
