Hikari Shimoda is set to launch a major solo exhibition at Asahi Art Museum in her hometown of Nagano, Japan. Entitled “The Catastrophe of Death and Regeneration,” the acclaimed Japanese artist will display ten years worth of artworks at the show, portraying her signature starry-eyed characters crafted using masterful brushwork, text, and collage techniques. Altogether, Shimoda attempts to raise awareness for modern day issues in her paintings of figures in heroic ensembles set against surreal backdrops.

A total of 40 new and archival works will be presented at the Asahi Art Museum exhibition that is set to launch this July 7 through August 26. Watch the video below to learn more about Shimoda’s artworks.
