The Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Rematch Is Officially Happening
A date has finally been set.

At the beginning of this year, “2017’s biggest fight” appeared to dominate the boxing conversation in 2018, with a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin announced. However, following Alvarez’s six-month suspension for a failed drug test, the match was put in jeopardy. Now, as ESPN and other outlets have reported, it looks a like a date for the anticipated Alvarez vs. Golovkin rematch has been set.
Canelo Alvarez — who Forbes calls “boxing’s biggest pay-per-view star” — and Gennady Golovkin are set to face off in the ring against each other on September 15. “Breaking: Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez agree to fight September 15 in Las Vegas, says Oscar De La Hoya,” reads a tweet from Sportscenter. “The rematch is on. 9.15.18,” adds another from HBO Boxing. Los Angeles Times journalist Lance Pugmire also revealed that Oscar De La Hoya himself confirmed the news.
