Aphex Twin Taps 12-Year-Old YouTuber to Direct His First Music Video Since 1999
And it is nothing at all like “Windowlicker.”
It’s been 17 years since Aphex Twin released the cinematic sprawl of a music video that was “Windowlicker.” Now, the notoriously reclusive and eccentric electronic music producer has resurfaced with a very different sort of visual.
Ryan Wyer is a 12-year-old YouTuber who goes by the cryptonym epic1:40d Gaming. Wyer’s output varies: sometimes he plays GTA V; sometimes he acts as if he has been possessed by Satan. Most of his videos have less than 100 views. At the time of this post’s writing, he has less than 500 subscribers. But none of that stopped Aphex Twin from reaching out to the tween to direct the video for “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ]” off of the producer’s forthcoming Cheetah EP. The video features Wyer in a starring role, dancing around with a mask of Richard D. James’ signature grin over his own face.
