AMBUSH Hits the Beach for Spring/Summer 2019
The Japanese brand debuts a sun-burnt range inspired by Hawaii’s Big Island.

With co-founder Yoon busy working on Dior Homme’s forthcoming jewelry collection, AMBUSH‘s cohesive, succinct Spring/Summer 2019 collection becomes all the more impressive. Drawing inspiration from Hawaii’s Big Island, where Yoon spent her formative years, “WAVES” centers around sunny layering pieces and ocean-ready gear, including a pair of gold and silver branded surfboards.
The tropical influence manifested in enormous straw hats and palm tree-emblazoned knitwear, with a host of bright pastel and unfettered white layers making for a crisp base for various sporty layers. Hoodies, patchwork shirts and disassembled vests were elevated with AMBUSH’s signature glistening silver accessories, which included crystal-accented necklaces and beaded bracelets. “WAVES” and AMBUSH branding appears on tees and sweaters, along with functional wetsuits, used to great effect as transformative layering pieces underneath bodices and over printed shirting. A clever play on the oceanic theme came in the form of life jackets transformed into giant, puffy outerwear, adding extra visual flair in the form of metallic and neon-colored detailing.
