Tom Cruise Shares First Photo for 'Top Gun: Maverick'
“I feel the need, the need for speed.”

Actor Tom Cruise took to his Twitter account to share the first photo from the set of Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to 1986’s cult classic film Top Gun. The tweet simply read “#Day1” and had the words “FEEL THE NEED.” overlaid on a photo of Cruise in a full flight suit on the tarmac in front of what looks like a Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Cruise’s famed character Lt. Pete Mitchell aka Maverick, sports his signature aviator glasses while holding a helmet with the same graphics from the original film. The caption is a reference to the famous exchange between Maverick and his copilot Goose (Anthony Edwards) at the Top Gun academy before they prepare to take off. Maverick says “I feel the need…” and in unison Goose and Maverick say “the need for speed!” As for the plot of the new movie, it’s expected to follow Maverick’s time in the modern military.
Currently Top Gun: Maverick is slated for a July 12, 2019 premiere. Directing the film is Joseph Kosinski who worked with Cruise in Oblivion (2013). Check out the photo above. For more Tom Cruise action, watch the latest trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
