Nendo Crafts Unconventional Hourglasses for New "Variations of Time" Collection
Four unique versions made of transparent acrylic.
Nendo continues to produce minimalist and functional objects. For its latest collection, the Japanese design studio produced a total of four unconventional hourglasses crafted entirely out of transparent acrylic. Each hourglass features a unique construction as well as fluid-like tunnels for sand to trickle into one chamber to another. Nendo will display “Variations of Time” in a solo exhibit at Milan Design Week next month.
“With the advent of digital clocks, the hourglass has transitioned from serving a functional role to convey more of a sentimental value, symbolizing the idea of time,” said Nendo to Dezeen. “The concept of this collection could be said to be designing time itself.”
