Kanye West, Ellie Goulding & More Connect for Global Citizen Album 'Metamorphoses'
Also, The National.
One of Kanye West‘s next musical moves isn’t going to be one of those new studio albums he tweeted about recently. Alongside the likes of high-profile, acclaimed acts such as The National and Ellie Goulding, ‘Ye will take part in the forthcoming project from Global Citizen, Metamorphoses. For those unfamiliar, Global Citizen is an organization whose mission is to tackle extreme poverty and significant environmental issues. As Pitchfork notes, the forthcoming release from Global Citizen will feature 12 songs containing “crowd-sourced lyrics” culled from a global range of individuals. Global Citizen co-founder and CEO Hugh Evans and Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett will serve as the individuals guiding and curating the effort, with more artists featured on Metamorphoses set to be announced soon. Check out a video about the endeavor below, and read Lovett’s official statement about the project below. Metamorphoses has the potential to break down our preconceptions of the voices of creativity, what different people around the world are thinking and who has the right to be heard. In my own life, I’ve experienced people trying to define me and put me in boxes and categories. Through collaboration we can show people how those lines can be blurred and are ultimately redundant. The artists involved in this project are some of the most genuine artists the world has to offer. Artists like Kanye West, and The National are doing something globally important that is touching people down to their DNA. And these masterfully creative people are going to be interpreting incredible submissions from people across the globe. It has been a joy reading all of the submissions we received over the past six months. I’m truly excited to see what we will create together.
