'Empire' Season 4 Scores Strong Ratings
Oscar-nominated Alfre Woodard will star as Cookie Lyon’s mom.

The Kanye West-inspired music TV drama Empire returned this past Wednesday an hour earlier than its usual slot on Fox. According to Variety, the spring premier pulled in high ratings outperforming its winter finale averaging a 2.0 and 6.1 million viewers making it the top-rated show of the night, above ABC’s Modern Family and NBC’s recap episode of The Voice. Cast listings note the Emmy-award winning Alfre Woodard, who plays Mariah on Luke Cage, will star alongside Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon’s mom. With two Oscar-nominated female leads and Demi Moore making an appearance on the first episode, fans are eager for more of the series.
The show airs on FOX each Wednesday at 8 p.m EST. You can watch Season 4: Episode 10 “Birds in the Cage” on Fox.com. Arguably, the music may be embarrassingly banal at times, but listen to Season 4’s soundtrack for a few hitters, and, don’t miss some throwbacks pulled through the score in the last episode — notably, Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones, Pt. II.”
