The French Laundry Unveils Newly Redesigned Space
The Michelin-starred restaurant’s first new look in 20 years.

One of Napa Valley, California’s culinary landmarks has received its first notable design in over 20 years.
Focusing on renovating Chef Thomas Keller’s Yountville, CA restaurant The French Laundry, Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta has rejuvenated the establishment’s landscape, kitchen and annex. Kallos Turin provided additional contributions for the dining room’s interior work, injecting some contemporary, minimalist vibes into the space. The French Laundry first opened in 1994 and boasts three Michelin stars next to its name.
“[The] design not only optimizes efficiency but also fosters a meaningful environment for the chefs who work there, setting a stage for cuisine that ignites the senses,” reads an official statement from the architects who brought the new Snøhetta to life. According to the architecture firm behind the re-design, the newly-rejuvenated restaurant is now “double the size of the existing landscape” and features all state-of-the-artwork features. Some of the new enhancements include a 2,000 sq ft kitchen annex, “curved gypsum fiber-reinforced panel ceiling,” a Japanese maple grove, stone walls, custom tables and more.
