Chanel recently took to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for their 17th annual Métiers d’Art show. Continuing alongside the brand’s iconic portrayal of extravagance as depicted in their recent Spring/Summer 2019, which recreated a life-size beach, Karl Lagerfeld has returned to showcase a lavish Egyptian-inspired Pre-Fall 2019 men’s and women’s collection.

Amongst the over 1,000 special guests was Pharrell Williams, who walked the runway in a unique gold-colored knit, trousers, and boots outfit, topped off with a beautifully-ornamented neckpiece.

The event utilized the Temple of Dendur as the centerpiece, an ancient Egyptian temple that was moved from its original location to the New York-based museum in 1978. From desert-inspired shades to long flowing white chiffon gowns and gilded accents, the collection showcased an array of pieces that referenced the hieroglyphics marking the temple’s exterior.

The show also sported Chanel’s signature bouclé jackets infused with gold threading, angular collars, and thematically-aligned hardware and prints. Paired with the looks were specially-designed accessories from headdresses to neckpieces and earrings. The show also included the first black male model to walk the Chanel runway, Alton Mason.

Catch a glimpse of the show above and for more related news, make sure to read up on Chanel’s recently-announced plan to stop using exotic skins and fur.
