Marvel Released a “Welcome to Wakanda” Featurette for 'Black Panther'
Insight into how Wakanda was crafted.
Black Panther brought upon a cultural phenomenon this year, and following various accolades and historical moments, Marvel has released a featurette highlighting the film’s technologically advanced nation in Africa, Wakanda. The visual is meant to be “for your consideration” (or “FYC”) just in time for Oscars season.
Director Ryan Coogler, lead Chadwick Boseman and the rest of the cast talk about the vision of the film, mainly what an uncolonized Africa could’ve looked like. It also touches on the new culture creatives had to make using real-life cultural traditions inspired by Africa. Actress Angela Bassett notes that the film is a bridge between who African-Americans are now in America and where we came from in Africa, and an aspiration of what can still be.
