MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. For our newest episode, we have ALLBLACK and Kenny Beats as our special guest.

Both artists are coming into their own and have done so in very unique ways. Since the release of his NOSHAME 2 mixtape at the beginning of 2017, Oakland’s ALLBLACK has been one of the hottest artists in hip-hop. The sports junkie turn rapper has been catching everyone’s eye, making himself an artist to watch for 2019 with his Outcalls tape. Kenny Beats went from producing for TDE as a young beatsmith to traveling the world as an EDM DJ to being one of the hottest men behind the boards in 2018, crafting beats for artists on the rise such as Rico Nasty, 03 Greedo, 10k Caash, JPEGMAFIA, among others.

“I don’t work with anybody I’m not excited about, whether its the first time or someone I’ve been a fan of for a long time,” Kenny says. “I only want to be in the room with someone where I know, cause there is no cost in studio time, we’re not worried about no beat prices, we’re not worried about nothing to do but anything but making fire”

For this episode, ALLBLACK and Kenny Beats discuss the art of making an authentic collaborative project, the first time they ever met and their first impressions, their unique career paths, sports and so much more.

Most recently, the two young stars released their collaborative EP, 2 Minute Drills. ALLBLACK and Kenny Beats’ 2 Minute Drills EP is made up of seven songs and features one lone guest contribution from Shoreline Mafia rapper Rob Vicious. The project serves as the follow-up to this past spring’s solo effort from ALLBLACK, Outcalls.
