Building anticipation for the 2019 release of her debut studio album as a solo act, ex-Fifth Harmony artist Normani links up with 6LACK for a new single titled “Waves.” Premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 program as today’s World Record, the song serves as an introduction to Normani’s new sound and style.

“He’s [6LACK] such an important artist, and I’ve been following his journey for a while now, and we’re really big fans of each other,” Normani tells Zane Lowe, breaking down her connection to her “Waves” collaborator. “I admire him as an artist, and he’s just … he’s amazing. He’s an amazing lyricist, and I feel like he took the record to a whole other level. I already love the record as is, but he totally exceeded any expectation I even had, which was pretty high, because I admire him as an artist.”

You can stream Normani and 6LACK’s “Waves” above and check out a portion of her Beats 1 interview below. For more, check out our recent interview with 6LACK.

This past February, Normani linked up with Khalid for “Love Lies.”
