Sportswear Makes An Impact At Pitti Uomo
Move over #menswear.
Though renowned for its celebration of classic tailoring and heritage menswear labels, Pitti Uomo has become a highly influential platform for discovering new design talent that pushes beyond the usual scope of what’s recognized as “traditional” men’s clothing. In addition to its successful guest designer presentations, the bi-annual Florentine fair hosts a slew of activations aimed at broadening the conversation around what brands, textile companies and fabric techniques bolster the fashion industry.
For its 93rd edition, Pitti Uomo launched its very first sportswear showcase in collaboration with storied Biella-based textile firm, REDA. Dubbed Athlovers, the project brought five innovative sportswear labels from all over the world – including Woolmark Prize winner DYNE (USA), ISAORA (USA), Aeance (Germany), 42.54 (Belgium) and GR1PS (Italy) – together with REDA to create collections utilizing experimental fabrics from the company’s newly-launched Active division.
